4 Steps To Awakening

by bignorm on October 13, 2009

During last week’s college lectures our class eagerly unpacked some of the marvelous accounts and phenomenal happenings from the Welsh Revival of 1904.

Revival remains a passion of mine - something that I long to see in our land again and throughout the nations. My heart stirs when I find out more about many great revivals throughout the last few centuries. Nations transformed, churches birthed and thousands swept into everlasting glory and eternal forgiveness.

The Great Commission Amplified!

The word Revival conjures up lots of powerful images for me. Kneeling masses wailing and begging for forgiveness from God, fiery black-caped preachers vehemently leading scores to God, and even long arduous hours or even days of toil for some in prayer. What springs to your mind?

These images are indeed moving and reminiscent of previous awakenings, but they are mere by-products of the true revival that must flourish first from within, according to late Welsh Revival stalwart Evan Roberts.

Roberts famously paraphrased 4 essential steps to personal revival, emphasizing that revival starts not with the group stuff, or even the BIG prep and vision, but with first with US.

Personal Revival First.

I can blog all day about it, some can prophesy in worship about it, others mimic practices from the mighty revival accounts of old, or even run glitzy conferences about it to discuss the ‘next great awakening’ in this century all we want. The reality remains hanging though: unless WE start taking responsibility for our own personal revival seriously, we risk missing another national and international spiritual awakening – something that I certainly do not want to miss.

Time permitting, I will (briefly) individually unpack a each of Evan Roberts four essential steps over the next few blogs, staring with Confessing every known sin to God and man.

Can I get an “Amen” brothers and sisters?
