As I ate breakfast with Emily this morning, I could’nt avoid the British Forces remeberance service in Iraq being broadcast live on BBC. As I watched, the names of over 179 British personnel were read out over a deathly silence. The British Forces Chaplain spoke a stern message of bravery, comradeship and honour for the fallen men and their families.
As the remaining solidiers stood there, I could not help think of a leadership wisdom of the great Colin Powell regarding trusting those in the trenches. In his leadership secrets book he says:
“The people in the field are closest to the problem, closest to the situation, therefore that is where real wisdom is at.”
